2 face drug trafficking charges after traffic stop in McDowell Co.

MCDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) McDowell County Sheriff’s Office officials arrested two men on several charges related to drug trafficking.

According to a news release, deputies were patrolling on Sugar Hill Road at around 2:05 a.m. on March 8, and stopped a Ford truck at the Pilot truck stop for traffic violations.

The driver of the truck was identified as Rodrigo Valdez, 39, of Marion and the passenger in the vehicle was identified as William Zachary Willis, 32, also of Marion.

Deputies, along with Marion Police Department officers performed a search, which revealed a handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, 200 grams of methamphetamine, 40 grams of marijuana and cash.

Valdez and Willis were each charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and simple possession of marijuana.

Valdez was additionally charged with driving while license revoked.
