2 killed, driver arrested after car crashes into NC restaurant

BESSEMER CITY, NC (WSPA) – A driver has been arrested and two people are dead, including an off-duty deputy, after a car crashed into a restaurant in Gaston County, North Carolina, Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just after noon at the Surf & Turf Lodge in Bessemer City, according to police chief Tom Ellis.

One of the victims was identified as a Gaston County Sheriff’s Deputy, Katelyn Self.

The driver was identified as the victim’s father, Roger Self. He has been arrested and police say they believe he intentionally drove into the building.

The identity of the other victim has not yet been released.

Police say several others were hurt and taken to hospitals in Charlotte and Gastonia.
