2 Landrum High School grads killed in crash

SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Two people are dead and a teen is in the hospital after a crash on Gowan Road near Inman.

Trooper Joe Hovis with the S.C. Highway Patrol says an SUV with three people inside ran off the road, flipped, and hit a pole around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The victims have been identified as Eli James Cagle, 18, of Campobello and Tyler Troy Hutcherson, 21, of Landrum by the coroner’s office.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Cagle died at the scene of the crash and Hutcherson passed away during surgery later that night.

Troopers say 18-year-old Daniel “KK” Peeler was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A hospital spokesperson said Peeler was in serious condition as of Wednesday morning.

Authorities say it’s unclear who was driving the SUV.

The crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Cagle and Peeler both worked at Links O’Tryon Golf Course in Campobello.

The golf course expressed concern and condolences to Cagle and Peeler’s families.

All the young men graduated from Landrum High School.

Spartanburg School District One released the following statement:

The Spartanburg School District One family is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Landrum High School graduates, Eli Cagle and Tyler Hutcherson. We continue to pray for Daniel “KK” Peeler, Landrum High School graduate, as he recovers from injuries sustained in this accident.
