2 students hurt after big rig hits school bus

GREENVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A school bus carrying elementary school students was hit by a tractor trailer in Greenville County.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m. Monday on Augusta Road.

Beth Brotherton, spokesperson for Greenville County Schools, said the bus was carrying students from Robert E. Cashion Elementary were on board at the time of the crash. She said no students were transported by emergency responders.

Brotherton said the tractor trailer ran a red light at 12 Impact Drive and hit the bus, however the S.C. Highway Patrol says the bus driver was cited in the accident.

Trooper Joe Hovis said the tractor trailer was headed south on Augusta Road and struck the rear of the school bus, which was making a left-hand turn.

The bus driver was cited with failure to yield, Hovis said.

He said 23 students were on the bus. Two were reportedly injured, including one child who was treated at the scene by EMS. Hovis said another student was taken by parents to get medical treatment.
