3 children killed in Taylors crash ID’d, 2 hurt

South Carolina Highway Patrol Investigators says three children were killed in a single car crash on Mountain Creek Rd. Friday morning. The driver and another child were taken to the hospital.

Trooper Joe Hovis with Highway Patrol tells 7News 27-year-old Arnez Yaron Jamison,of Greenville, was driving north on Mountain Creek Road, or Highway 253, when he ran off the right side of the road and hit several trees.

The crash happened less than a mile from Mountain Creek Baptist Church. According to Highway Patrol it occurred around 12:28 a.m. on Friday.

Five passengers were in the van, including four children, Hovis said.

Three children were killed in the crash. The driver and another child were taken to the hospital.

At this time the condition of the driver and child are still unknown.

The Greenville County Coroner has identified the victims as 4-year-old Arnez Yaron Jamison, Jr., 6-year-old Robbiana Evans and 8-year-old Jamire Halley.

Jamire was a third grader at Gateway Elementary School and Robbiana was in kindergarten. School leaders made grief counselors available on Friday.

According to the coroner’s report they died from blunt force trauma.

“Very, very tragic accident.” Jim Dickson, who lives nearby, told 7News.

Investigators could not confirm if the children were wearing seat belts. They say Jamison, the driver, was not.

Investigators believe the child that was taken to the hospital was wearing a seat belt.

Highway Patrol is working to determine what caused the crash.

Dickson tells 7News those who drive on Mountain Creek Rd. need to really pay attention. He says the road is curvy and dangerous, especially after sunset.

“There are no street lights on the corner where you are coming out,” Dickson said. “You just have to look down and at night look for headlights coming up over the hill.”

Hovis said charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
