Police have released surveillance pictures that they hope will help find four men accused of robbing the Rite Aid on North Pine Street in Spartanburg.
Witnesses said at least two men had guns, according to police.
A witness told police one of the men yelled, “Where’s the money?” Another witness said she was standing near the register when one of the men said, “Alright, everyone back up and put your hands up. Don’t move!”
Witnesses told police that one of the men used a brick to keep the door open and stayed at the front of the store, according to police.
Two of the men jumped over the counter and pointed a gun at the cashier, police said.
The cashier told police that one of the men told him to open the register or he was going to “lay me out.” After he opened the register, one of the men hit in him the back of the head with the gun, police said.
The fourth man jumped over the wall to the manager’s office and demanded the employee to open the safe or “I’ll blow your brains out!,” according to the police. He opened the safe before the robber put him up against the wall and took all of the money.
The men took an unknown amount of cash from the safe and the register before leaving in a gray SUV. Police said the driver attempted to leave before the men were able to get into the car.
A K-9 team was unable to track the men beyond the parking lot near CVS and Food Lion where the vehicle had been parked, police said.
A forensics team was called in to investigate the scene. Police said some of the men were not wearing gloves and they were able to collect finger prints.
The clerk that was hit back of the head with a gun was taken by EMS to an area hospital, police said. There was no immediate word on his condition.
