4 people facing drug charges in Spartanburg Co.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Five people were arrested Monday after deputies responded to a report of shots fired in Spartanburg County. 

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded at about 8 a.m. to the 200 block of Willams Street to find a suspicious vehicle in the roadway. 

Deputies said they were able to get all four occupants, Tycourtney Cortez Brewton, 27, of Spartanburg, James David Gist III, 36, of Spartanburg, Johnny Leketto Ferguson Jr., 35, of Spartanburg, and Denise Michelle Crawford, 50, of Spartanburg, out of the car and into custody.

Deputies searched the car to find two handguns, 6.9 grams of heroin, 5.2 grams of marijuana, 4 grams of crack cocaine, two sets of digital scales, numerous small plasic baggies and Ibuprofen.

Brewton has been charged with first offense trafficking heroin 4-14 grams, first offense possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, first offense possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a weapon during a violent crime,open container liquor in vehicle and public disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $132,923.

Gist has been charged with second offense trafficking heroin 4-14 grams, second offense possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, third offense possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a weapon by a violent felon open container liquor in vehicle and public disorderly conduct. Gist’s bond was set at $159,912, according to the sheriff’s office.  

Ferguson has been charged with second offense trafficking heroin 4-14 grams, third offense possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, first offense possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a violent felon. His bond was set at 135,000.

Crawford has been charged with first offense trafficking heroin 4-14 grams, first offense possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, first offense possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Her bond amount was set at $90,000.

All four were booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center. 

Anita Marie Cheeks, 57, was arrested after filming and yelling curse words at the deputies while they were searching the car, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Deputies said they asked Cheeks to stop several times before arresting her. She was charged with public disorderly conduct.
