55-year-old man killed, driver charged in crash in Travelers Rest

A man was killed in an car crash early Sunday morning in Travelers Rest.

Walter Mucienko, III, 29, of Travelers Rest, was driving a 1994 Ford pickup truck east on Bates Bridge Road near Warehouse Drive at about 1:05 a.m. when he drove off of the right side of the road and hit an embankent and a utitlity pole, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. 

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said the car overturned.

Walter Mucienko, Jr., 55, of Travelers Rest, was a passenger in the truck at the time of the wreck. He injured during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1:30 a.m., according to the coroner’s office. 

Walter Mucienko, III, was not injured during the crash, but troopers said neither one of the men were wearing seat belts. 

Walter Mucienko, III, has been charged with felony DUI with death and a possession charge, according to troopers. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol’s MAIT team and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate the crash.
