ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man was killed early Wednesday morning during a crash on Hayes Road in Anderson County.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 12:26 a.m. near Highway 28.
Troopers said the driver of a 1998 Toyota Avalon was headed west on Hayes Road when they went off of the left side of the roadway and crash into a tree.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, troopers said.
Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman identified the driver as Billy Joe Kelley, 42, of Anderson.
Boseman said Kelley died from multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma.
According to the coroner’s release, an investigating indicates that Kelley was reportedly driving the car west on Hayes Road at a high rate of speed, lost control and then veered left of the road and hit several trees.
The coroner’s office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash.
