Main St. in downtown Greenville reopens following gas leak

UPDATE – The City of Greenville said the section of S. Main Street that was temporarily closed due to a gas leak has been reopened.

Greenville Police Department officials said an officer was flagged down at about 8:11 a.m. about a the gas leak at a new construction site, across from the Peace Center.

Police said the construction site was evacuated and the area was roped off.

Piedmont Natural Gas workers responded to the scene and turned the gas off.

Greenville Fire Department officials deemed safe to resume normal activity.


GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – The City of Greenville released information about a gas leak along Main Street in downtown Greenville.

City officials said the leak happened near Riverplace.

S. Main Street has been blocked off from E. Broad Street to Augusta Street, according to city officials.

Greenville Police officers are directing traffic.
