ANDERSON Co., SC (WSPA) – New numbers released by the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce show employment is growing at a fast rate in Anderson County.
In just March of 2018, 588 jobs were added and the county’s unemployment rate hit a historic low of 3.8 percent. If you take a look back at the rate, in 2010, the county was sitting at 11.6 percent and has steadily decreased over the last eight years.
“All the work we’ve put into building a solid manufacturing base is allowing us now to take advantage of a booming regional economy”, said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “It is critical that we sustain our economic development program so we can continue to ensure our citizens will have good jobs with good wages.”
County Council members tell us their focus is and always will be job growth and job creation therefore all departments in the county work together to increase recruitment and retention of these large manufacturing companies.
“We have two people where their full time job is to visit existing industries because just because you announced and we had a big party and a big splash don’t mean we forget you. That’s only the beginning of how we take care of you,” said Rusty Burns, County Administrator.
With the increase in jobs and people, Burns tells us more people are buying houses and cars which in turn just helps the entire economy of the county.
