IVA, SC (WSPA) – An Iva man tells 7News he was hit by lightning after a major round of storms went through southern Anderson County Tuesday night.

Residents in the area said it started as a light rain and immediately started down pouring and lightning with loud claps of thunder then what sounded like an explosion.

Justin Harris said he was trying to bring dinner inside for his family when he said the bolt hit and he felt a burning sensation up his left side.

“I was trying to bring myself to stand up and I couldn’t because everything was so numb like I was literally shaking, I remember her telling me to be still it they are on their way they are on their way,” Harris said.

Now Harris is okay after getting checked out by EMS and tells 7News he feels lucky to be alive.

What Harris believes happened is a bolt hit right behind him sending shock waves through the ground then when he touched his metal gate the electricity transferred in through his fingers.
