Anderson Co. unveils parking spaces dedicated to Purple Heart veterans

News

ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) Purple Heart veterans in Anderson County now have some parking spots dedicated to them.

Only veterans who were hurt in the line of duty or died while serving their country receive this prestigious award. But now, two parking spots at the Anderson County Veterans Affairs Office on North Main Street are dedicated only to them.

Veterans and county officials hope this first step creates a movement across the state.

My fellow purple heart recipients can’t say thank you enough to our Anderson County for taking the time to recognize us and devote this sacred place because that’s what it is a scared place, said Sammy Lewis who is a two time Purple Heart recipient.

Right now there are 88 Purple Heart recipients that are registered in Anderson County, but the Veterans Affairs Office believes there are more recipients in the county that haven’t joined the membership.
