An Upstate musician will go on tour with Ashlee Simpson and her husband Evan Ross this January.
Anderson native Brandon Gilliard landed the gig through his mentor Verdine White, bass guitarist for Earth, Wind & Fire.
In the past, he has played on the Tonight show, SNL and President Barack Obama’s inauguration with artists Janelle Monae and Lecrae.
Gilliard says the tour with Simson and Ross happened quickly, after a call from Verdine White who is their producer. “There was no real audition,” he said. “I just got placed. That’s the funny thing about music these days. There’s not a whole lot of auditions anymore. It’s just all word of mouth.”
The national tour with Simpson and Ross is from January 7th through the 19th. They are performing in Atlanta on January 10th at The Loft. For ticket information, click here.
