A ceiling collapsed on a pregnant woman Wednesday night at the Shemwood Crossing Apartments in Greenville.
Tybria Harris says she was lying in her bed when the ceiling collapsed on her.
Harris is three months pregnant and says EMS workers told her she suffered head trauma.
The ceiling collapse in Harris’ apartment is the third collapse 7News has covered at Shemwood Crossing in the past two years.
“Make sure that we can protect people that rent, so we don’t have someone who lives out of town who’s simply collecting their money and not caring about the residents who stay miles away from them,” said Bruce Wilson, a candidate for State Representative District 25.
The spokesperson from the city of Greenville says an inspector was sent to the apartment complex on Thursday. The inspector issued a violation notice to the apartment management. They now have 10 to 15 days to fix the problems in the apartment before the a summons is issued.
However, Harris says more needs to be done so this doesn’t keep happening to her or her neighbors.
“I didn’t have anywhere else to to go, so I didn’t have a choice for me and my kids, so they do need to be tore down, renovated, remodeled or something,” Harris said.
Reliant Realty Services owns the Shemwood Crossing property. 7News reached out to the president Thursday but have not gotten a response at this time.
