SAN FRANCISCO, CA (CNN/WSPA) – Apple unveiled its latest version of the iPhone at its highly anticipated annual product announcement event.

The next generation are the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The smartphones are water resistant and come in new shades of black.

Among the changes, Apple removed the jack for standard headphones. Their iconic white earbuds will now connect with the phone’s lightning port. But Apple will include an adapter for standard 3.5 millimeter headphones.

They have also improved the cameras with the Plus version having two.

CEO Tim Cook says the company has sold more than one billion of the devices since it launched in 2007.

Apple made a number of other announcements Wednesday – including a new, waterproof Apple Watch and a Super Mario Brothers game coming to iOS later this year.

The company will also sell a wireless version of their earbuds, AirPods, for $159 starting in October.

The phones release on September 16 starting at $649.
