ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) – City of Asheville officials confirmed that they are close to finalizing a settlement with a man that Asheville Police Department officers were caught on camera beating and tasing in August 2017.

On August 24, Johnnie Rush was stopped after officers believed he was jaywalking.

The stop escalated and former officer Christopher Hickman can be seen on body camera repeatedly hitting Rush.

Rush was also tased during the incident.

Hickman is facing charges related to the video and and at least two other officers with the police department have since been fired.

Asheville Interim City Manager Cathy Ball confirmed on Wednesday that the city is closing to settling with Rush.
