ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Biltmore Forest Police Department officials confirmed an attempted child abduction was reported to their agency on Wednesday.

According to Biltmore Forest Police Chief Chris Beddingfield, it was reported to the department that a suspicious vehicle tried to pick up an 8th grader at Carolina Day School.

Beddingfield said the vehicle and suspect description was similar, but not identical to another incident that happened in northern Asheville about a week ago.

“We are following up on preliminary information that is currently leading us to believe that the two incidents are not related,” Beddingfield said. “We currently have extra police coverage at the story and are reminding/asking parents to remind their children to be alert and vigilant to their surroundings, never get into vehicles with a stranger and to travel in numbers if possible for safety.”
