ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) – All weekend Lake Hartwell will be packed with people and boats as they host the Bassmaster Elite Series.
While Anderson County has hosted three Bassmaster Classics, this is the first time they’ve hosted a qualifier, and the event is not just about fish, but the money it brings to the area.
In total, the tournament is four days with 75 boats and each angler brings with them a team of people. Those people are spending money on hotels, supplies and food totaling up to a $2 million economic impact, according to the county tourism department.
“A lot of these anglers, for example, they aren’t just coming here themselves, they got their families with them and maybe relatives are visiting. The travel parties are twice the size for sports tourism than leisure tourism and a person here for a leisure visit will only spend half as much as someone for sports tourism per day,” said Glenn Brill with Anderson County.
The boats will launch again Friday morning and come back off the water in the afternoon for weigh in right in the parking lot. The winner will be announced on Sunday.
