ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) โ€“ Authorities say a man was killed and his young niece was admitted to the hospital after a dirt bike crash in Belton.

The S.C. Highway Patrol says the deadly crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers say the dirt bike was headed south on Murphy Road and crashed to keep from hitting an SUV making a left-hand turn.

The driver was thrown from the dirt bike and hit by the SUV, according to troopers.

Authorities say he died at the scene of the crash. A 5-year-old girl was also riding the dirt bike at the time of the crash. The child was taken to AnMed Hospital and later transferred to Greenville Memorial Hospital, troopers say.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown identified the man killed as 32-year-old Thomas Mitchell Wallace of Belton. The child on the dirt bike is his niece.

Wallace died of blunt force trauma and a head injury. McCown said his death has been ruled an accident.

McCown said Wallace’s niece is doing OK.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Charges are pending in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
