MCDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – McDowell County Sheriff’s Office officials identified the body that was found floating in an area creek Monday afternoon as that of the 31-year-old woman who was reported missing last week.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, the female’s body was identified as Brittney Crystal Bumgardner, 31.

Sheriff’s office officials said an autopsy was performed on Wednesday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Doctors were able to use dental records to confirm Bumgardner’s identity.

According to the release, it was also determined that Bumgardner drowned, but there were reportedly no signs of physical injury. No foul play is suspected.

Bumgardner’s family members reported her missing on May 10, but said they had not spoken to her since April 30.

We reported earlier that kayakers had discovered a body around noon on Monday in Paxton Creek behind Woody Farm Drive.
