GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — Police and the coroner’s office are investigating after a man’s body was found in the Reedy River on Monday morning.

The body was found at the west end of Falls Park. That’s near the S.C. Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and Warehouse Theatre.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said the body of David Richard Davis, 58, was found around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Lieutenant Jason Rampey said two homeless men were drinking alcohol in the park on Sunday evening.

One of the men went to a homeless shelter, while Davis stayed behind to sleep in the park.

When the first man returned to the park this morning, he found Davis in the water.

Investigators think Davis may have been sitting or standing on a ledge, lost his footing or fell into the water.

Police say drinking is likely a factor.

The cause and manner of death are pending.
