GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – One Upstate hospital system is making sure everyone no matter their age or financial situation has an opportunity to make sure their heart is healthy.
It’s all part of a statewide effort to raise awareness about heart issues and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is offering free heart screenings at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday.
It’s as a simple as showing up, a finger prick and you’ll be able to know the health of your heart. The free health screenings are open to the public and the event coordinator said it’s their way to give back to the community.
If you plan to attend, patients are asked to refrain from eating and drinking after midnight the night before. The screening will include blood sugar tests, blood pressure, BMI and can pinpointn other risk factors.
“We’ve had some people find out their blood pressure or cholesterol was really high and we set them up with a cardiologist and other times we’ve had to send people to an emergency room because they were having a heart attack or getting ready to have a heart attack,” said Pat Barnes who’s one of the event coordinators.
You don’t have to preregister to attend on Thursday just come by the Wellness Arena between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. This is the fifth year for the event and just last year they screened 145 people at the event.
