ANDERSON Co., SC (WSPA) – The mother of a 2-year-old girl who died from a brain injury has been charged.

Laura Bethany Griffin, 21, of Dewy Rose, Ga. was charged with homicide by child abuse on Thursday. Griffin’s arrest was made weeks after Evelynn “Evie” Leonhardt’s  died from a traumatic brain injury.

A warrant states Griffin caused blunt force trauma to her daughter.

Evie was taken to AnMed Health Center on April 17 before she was transferred to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Four days later, the little girl was taken off life support.

Griffin appeared for a bond hearing on Friday afternoon where her bond was denied.  Her bond will be issued by a Circuit Court judge.
