Brian Foster behind bars for shooting on Old Canaan Road

SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Sheriff Chuck Wright said in a news conference Tuesday that the suspect in a deadly shooting that happened Sunday on Old Canaan Road has been captured.

According Wright, Brian Cornelius Foster, 18, of Spartanburg, was caught following a stakeout.

“We had two of our gentlemen that work with us staked out at some certain spots and we were able to get him through the help of the neighborhood,” he said.

We reported earlier that the sheriff’s office found one man dead inside a home on Old Canaan Road from an apparent gunshot wound around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The coroner identified the victim as 29-year-old Eric Morris.

A second shooting victim was found at a nearby home with injuries that didn’t appear to be life threatening.

Foster was wanted on charges of murder, three counts of attempted murder and four counts each of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Warrants state Foster also shot at two other victims.

The news conference was initially scheduled because family members wanted to plead with Foster to turn himself in, but Wright said shortly before the news conference he received a call that Foster was in custody.

Wright added that Foster’s family wants the Morris family to know that they are remorseful and sorry for their loss.

In the news conference, Wright encouraged the community to call them if they see something happening that is not right.

“You know what’s going on in your neighborhood more than I do,” Wright said. “This is why we want you to talk to us when things are not right, because it could lead to these things.”

While investigators were on the scene, they also arrested four young women between the ages of 17-20, charging them with intimidating witnesses.

Deputies tell us while everyone involved knew each other, breaking the law will get you in trouble.

“If you intimidate a witness in Spartanburg County, we will put you in jail and we’ll charge you with whatever we can,” Wright said. “We’re not going to have that. I understand that these people are your friends, I get it. But you need to pick and choose. You need to choose to believe them or me. I’ll prove to you that I don’t lie.”
