Cancer fundraisers go “Over The Edge” of the AC Hotel Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – 79 people are set to go “Over The Edge” of the 10 story AC Hotel Spartanburg Friday.

And ahead of that, 7News Anchor/Reporter Diane Lee was the first to rappel down the building on media-day Thursday.  She raised money through her event page.

The event raised money for the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, which helps local families fighting cancer.

The goal was 150,000 but donors blew past that.

“This has been a tremendous event for us it’s way beyond what we ever expected is $200,000,” said Glaydeane Lee with the Cancer Association.

Among Friday’s participants are several cancer survivors like Mark Mullen who recently underwent surgery for prostate cancer.  He is the #1 fundraiser of the event pulling in more than $10,000.

“My best friend growing up made the whole goal for me and it’s just skyrocketed from there. I have over 106 donors now, and I’ve been so humbled by the support of this town. It’s awesome,”  he said.

You can watch them rappel between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. tomorrow right in front of the hotel.
