Child in car during police chase in Clemson, mom arrested

CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) – A woman is behind bars after refusing to stop for police, according to the Clemson Police Department.

23-year-old Caitlin Stuart was arrested after a deputy tried to stop her for running a stop sign, but she kept driving, resulting in a chase.

The incident report says she then ran another stop sign and was almost hit by a white box truck when she lost control of her vehicle and started spinning.

Stuart then started driving in reverse when a man jumped out of the car on the passenger side and fled the area.

The incident report says she then put the car in park and slid over to the passenger side, and began reaching for a baby in the backseat, before a deputy approached her.

Stuart has been charged with disregarding a stop sign, failure to stop for blue light, driving under suspension 3rd offense, and habitual offender.

She may also be charged with possession of methamphetamine, child endangerment, and resisting arrest, according to the incident report.

She is being held at the Clemson Detention Center.
