Chimney Rock’s Greta the Groundhog sees shadow, chooses Super Bowl winner

Greta the Groundhog

Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park held their 14th Annual Groundhog Day Celebration Saturday.

People gathered at the park from across the nation to see Greta the groundhog, according to a press release.

Greta briefly came out of her house at 10:30 a.m. and then went back inside, according to the release.

Chimney Rock Village Mayor Peter O’Leary declared that because of Greta’s reaction there would be six more weeks of winter, the release said.

Identical bowls of food were marked with each of the Super Bowl’s teams and placed in front of Greta. According to the release, Greta initally nibbled from the New Englad Patriots’ bowl before going to the Los Angeles Rams bowl. It was decided that the Rams have a good chance of winning since “Greta has been right 50 percent of the time with her Super Bowl predictions,” the release said.

There were also crafts and meet and greet opportunities with other animals available at the event.
