CLEMSON, SC (WSPA) – Two of the last three years, the Clemson Tigers have been named the college football national champions. That success on the field has even translated to the community.
As Clemson University becomes more popular with the success of the athletic teams so does the city itself.
Local business managers tell 7News that since the 2016 National Title win, they’ve shifted business models to anticipate more sales when the football team wins.
This year is no different and the locals said it wouldn’t be possible without the university caring about the city it’s in.
“What’s interesting is how many people are retiring to this area and I have to believe it’s due to the athletic program and what an athletic program based on positivity brings to the culture of the town,” said Shawn Cartmill who is the manager of The Tiger Sports Shop.
A number of businesses tell 7News they saw a huge spike in business with the watch party on Monday that brought 15,000 people downtown and they hope Saturday brings the same.
