DUNCAN, S.C. (WSPA) – Work is set to begin in July on a $2 million event center in Duncan. The 3,600 square foot multi-use center is part of a city-wide revitalization plan.

The center will be on Spencer Street within walking distance of Stoneledge Park and the popular Shipwreck Cove water park.

“Anything that brings business and revenue to the upstate is a good thing. We come from Gaffney,” said visitor Cameron Dickson. “We drive 45 minutes just to come here because no where else do you have a water park in the Upstate like this.”

The venue will include a staging area with lawn seating, an enclosed garden and additional green space. A parking lot is also part of the development.

The multi-use center will have capacity for up to 300 people.

“We could use anything that we could get that will bring people together,” said Christopher Young from Spartanburg.

The center is expected to open by summer 2019.
