SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — The coroner says a Spartanburg County man was killed when he was hit by an SUV in Spartanburg County.

The wreck happened just after midnight Tuesday on S. Pine Street near Amelia Avenue.

Lance Cpl. Gary Miller with the S.C. Highway Patrol said a Union woman was driving east on S. Pine Street when she hit a pedestrian walking in the road.

The pedestrian is identified as Michael Lee Robinson, 53, of Whitestone Glendale Road, Spartanburg.

Robinson died at the scene of the crash, Coroner Rusty Clevenger said in a news release.

The exact cause of Robinson’s death is pending a forensic examination.

Troopers say the driver was not hurt.

There are no charges.

It was the second deadly accident in Spartanburg County in less than 24 hours.

Troopers say a Pauline woman died Monday afternoon after the SUV she was driving ran off the right side of Highway 56 and overturned, throwing her from the vehicle.
