SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the woman who died in a structure fire in Inman on Monday.
According to Coroner Rusty Clevenger, the investigation is taking place on Clay Street.
Inman Fire Chief Chris Cothran said firefighters were called to the fire around 11:30 a.m.
Cothran said when crews got on-scene, there was no fire and the scene was not hot anymore.
According to Cothran, they believe the fire may have happened sometime overnight, and possibly went out on its own.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the woman as Sharon Denise Stripling, 57.
Clevenger said Stripling was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At this time toxicology, autopsy, and other forensics investigative techniques are pending to determine the cause and manner of death,” Clevenger said.
On Tuesday, Coroner’s Assistant Chief Investigator Jonathan Lawson said Stripling’s autopsy had not been completed.
Lawson said there are no signs of foul play.
The cause of death is pending a toxicology examination.
Clevenger said the coroner’s office, along with the Spartanburg County Fire Marshall and Fire Investigation Team, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Inman City Police and Fire Department, is investigating.
