Moped driver killed during crash on New Cut Rd. in Spartanburg Co. ID’d


SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Emergency crews responded Tuesday morning to a crash on New Cut Road in Spartanburg County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s website, the crash happened at about 7 a.m. on New Cut Road near Interstate 85 Business.

Troopers said the driver of a 1998 Jeep was entering New Cut Road from Brisick Road when the driver of a moped crashed into them.

The driver of the moped was ejected from his bike and died at the scene, troopers said. The driver was not wearing a helmet.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the driver of the moped as David Charles Bailey, of Spartanburg.

Clevenger said toxicology and a forensic exam is pending at this time.

SCHP and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate.
