Correctional officer arrested for introducing contraband at Upstate prison

COLUMBIA, SC (WSPA) – A correctional officer is accused of bringing contraband and conspiring with an inmate at Tyger River Correctional Institution.

The S.C. Department of Corrections said that Cody Allen Masters was arrested on May 25.

Masters is charged with furnishing or attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband, violation of the State Ethics law, misconduct in office and criminal conspiracy.

A warrant says Masters concealed half pound bags of tobacco inside his protective vest and provided the contraband to inmates for $200 each time.

Masters is also accused of conspiring with an inmate to bring contraband into the prison for $800.

Masters started working at the medium-security prison in September 2017.
