1 killed, another hurt in Anderson Co. crash

ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) – The coroner said a woman was killed and another person hurt as they were driving home from work.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:37 p.m. Monday on Anderson Road near Cherry Street Extension.

The driver of a 2011 Kia Sorento was traveling west on Anderson Road when they crossed over the center line, ran off of the left side of the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver was injured and trapped inside the SUV. They were taken by EMS to AnMed Health Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The passenger, Charlotte Marie Reed, 33, of Pendleton, was ejected during the crash and died at the scene, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

Troopers said neither Reed nor the driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

According to the coroner’s office, both had just gotten off work and were headed towards Reed’s home when they crashed.

Pendleton EMS and the Anderson County Fire Department also responded to the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol’s multi-disciplinary accident investigation team and the Anderson County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate the crash.
