COLUMBUS, N.C. (WSPA) – Emergency crews responded Tuesday morning to an explosion at a gas station in Columbus.

According to Polk Co. Emergency Management Director and Fire Marshal Bobby Arledge, the call came in just after 8 a.m. for an explosion at Deb’s Mini Mart on Highway 9.

Arledge said a man was about to start pumping gas when he heard a loud explosion. He said the explosion blew the cover off of a manhole and flames were shooting out for a few seconds.

Fire crews responded to the scene and shut down all of the gas pumps until a technician can check everything out.

No injuries were reported, according to Arledge.

A 7 News crew is enroute to the scene.
