Customers asked to call postal service after Spartanburg mail box taped by officials

There are a lot of questions for the postal service after a box near Westgate Mall in Spartanburg County was all taped up.

7News has made calls that have led us from the Upstate to Columbia to Washington D.C. trying to find out what happened to this mailbox.

The mailbox is now bearing a sign asking customers who used the box after the hours of 5 p.m. on March 23 to  7 a.m. on March 25 to contact the postal service.

We talked to the Spartanburg postmaster who told us to call the communications office in Columbia.

The communications office then referred our questions to a team in Washington, D.C. That team has not yet responded back to us.

We contacted the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office because this post office is in their jurisdiction.

They told 7News that the postal service has its own investigation agency called the Postal Inspection Service.
