Dad charged after shooting son at in-home daycare, sheriff says

BROADWAY, N.C. (WNCN) – A 52-year-old man accused of shooting his son at an in-home daycare Tuesday in Harnett County has been charged by the Sheriff’s Office.

Paul F. Alday was charged Tuesday evening with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and indecent liberties with a child following the incident at the daycare on Hilltop Road.

When the shooting took place, eight to 10 children were in the home, Sheriff Wayne Coats said. None of them was harmed, though at least two shots were fired, according to the sheriff.

Daniel Alday, 21, was shot and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center then airlifted to UNC Medical Center, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Office said the argument between Paul and Daniel Alday was the result of an alleged inappropriate picture of a child.

Both Aldays are listed as residing at the home that holds the daycare, 139 Hilltop Rd., Broadway.

Investigators have seized four weapons, Coats said.
