NEWBERRY Co., SC (WSPA) — Deputies say a man wanted for attempted murder in a stabbing on Lake Murray was captured. His mother is also charged as an accomplice.
The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office had asked for the public’s help finding Matthew LeGrande Jackson.
Deputies say the 28-year-old stabbed another man Wednesday night, and his mother, identified as 48-year-old Sheila Jackson Norton, was also involved in the assault.
Jackson and the victim got into an argument at SCE&G Boating Ramp and Park earlier in the day. Deputies say Jackson left the park before returning with Norton and confronting the victim. Jackson allegedly stabbed the victim several times. Deputies say Norton also took part in the assault and attempted to hit one someone with a vehicle.
The victim was taken to Newberry Hospital before he was moved to a Columbia-area hospital for his injuries.
An officer received a tip that Jackson was hiding in Sumter. Deputies worked with authorities there to arrest Jackson. Norton was also arrested.
Son and mother will be transported to Newberry County for a bond hearing on Friday morning.
