Cowpens man charged with attempted murder in father’s stabbing

COWPENS, S.C. (WSPA) — Deputies have charged a Cowpens man with attempted murder in a stabbing that critically injured his father.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a stabbing around 1 a.m. Friday at a home on Corn Mill Road. 

Deputies found the victim with several severe cuts.

The sheriff’s office said the victim is the father of the suspect, identified as Jimmy Dean Williams Jr., 36, of Cowpens.

Deputies said the suspect’s mother witnessed the stabbing and called 911 for help. Williams allegedly took the phone away from his mother and disconnected before he ran from the home.

Williams was arrested near a storage building without incident.

He’s charged with attempted murder.

Deputies say the victim is hospitalized in critical condition.

A motive for the stabbing has not been determine at this time.

Williams is jailed in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
