ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) — An officer is out of the hospital after accidentally shooting himself.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Crossing Apartments on Beltline Boulevard.

Deputies say the officer suffered a shot in the leg after returning home from an off-duty assignment.

A spokeswoman with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office identified the officer as Deputy Ricky Scott. She said he was treated and released Wednesday night and is doing fine.

Scott serves as a school resource officer at Westside High School.

An internal investigation is being conducted as protocol.
