The Department of Health and Environmental Services is on scene of an anhydrous ammonia leak at the Greenwood Packing Plant.
Officials say the leak started around 1 a.m. Sunday.
A half-mile radius around the plant has been evacuated.
A reception center has been set up at Emerald High School. Red Cross volunteers are there helping residents that had to leave their homes.
Snacks and water are being provided.
DHEC will be conducting an air sample to determine the next steps of the process in order to keep everyone safe.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, anhydrous ammonia is a gas used as an agricultural fertilizer and industrial refrigerant.
