SAPPHIRE VALLEY, N.C. (WSPA) – Golfer’s are getting a chance to show off their skills on the big screen. The casting company for the remake of Dirty Dancing needs someone with a great swing to help them out filming in Cashiers soon.
Locals say the area in Western North Carolina is known for its beauty and for its golf.
“It is huge. The amount of golfing here makes it a big destination, especially for people from other states,” Jim King said, with Sapphire Valley Resort at Red Bird Golf.
It’s why Jim King moved here a while ago. He’s been golfing with his dad and now on the job for years.
Sapphire Valley Resort at Red Bird Golf is one of several locations in the area that offers golf, among other activities like zip lines, foot golf and skiing.
“It’s just the outdoors, mountains, waterfalls and everything you want is right here,” he said.
It was no surprise to Jim when he heard the dirty dancing crew chose the area to film. He says the town is buzzing with excitement to see their home in the remake.
“We’ve all seen it! I don’t know anybody who hasn’t seen it,” he said about the iconic original movie. “I was excited for the area, for people to see what we look like.”
A casting call was put out in the area looking for golfers who can be a part of the TV special. They were looking for 6 people who know what they’re doing.
They want the golfers to be living in the area to be available for a wardrobe fitting in Hendersonville. But most importantly you have to know how to play golf and be able to hit the ball.
The casting company says they’ve already had 450 submissions from golfers in the area. So right now they’re not taking any more.
There are extras that they still need for filming this week and next week for people with 70’s hair styles.
