Dog found shot, burned, beaten; police looking for suspect

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A dog is getting national attention after it was found shot, burned and beaten.

A reward for information in the Great Pyrenees’s case is being offered by the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MACC) hopes that reward will motivate people to come forward because they’re concerned with the type of person they’re dealing with.

“Because of the extensive damage and violent nature of the dog’s injuries, we’re afraid this person could be harming people,” said MCACC Director Jeanette Farrell.

She added, “There is a correlation between animal abuse and human abuse. Any time you see animal abuse you have to take it very seriously.”

The Great Pyrenees was found in a rural part of Clarksville off Old Highway 48. His rescuers named him Marshall and immediately took him to an emergency vet.

Marshall had been shot in two of his limbs, had cuts all over his body, was 40 pounds underweight and had a deep gash around his neck.

“What they’re thinking is that it’s a long-term effect from an electric collar,” said Farrell. “Being zapped repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly and burned.”

His back left leg and hip also had to be amputated.

When the shelter couldn’t afford the pup’s vet bills any longer, they turned to Big Fluffy Dog Rescue in Nashville.

“There are cases that I see that are forever embedded in my memory, and this is one of them,” said Big Fluffy Dog Rescue Founder Jean Harrison.

Both she had Farrell are concerned that the dog’s abuse was so bad that there could be other victims.

“It’s important that people understand that there’s someone on the loose that’s capable of doing great harm to animals and people,” said Harrison. “I sincerely hope that whoever did this gets caught and quickly.”

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is offering $5,000 for the conviction of Marshall’s alleged torturer. If you have information, you’re urged to call the Montgomery County Animal Care and Control at 931-648-5750.
