SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A new superintendent was named for Spartanburg District Five on Monday.
According to a news release, the district’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved Dr. Randall Gary as the system’s next superintendent.
Gary comes to the Upstate from the Batesburg-Leesville, SC area, where he served as the Lexington School District Three superintendent since 2015.
According to the release, Gary replaces Dr. Scott Turner, who will retire at the end of June.
“In a very talented field of candidates, Dr. Gary’s experience, professionalism, and approachability made him the best choice to lead District Five,” Board Chairman Rick Eitel said. “We are confident he will build on Dr. Turner’s legacy and believe he is the right person to lead District Five into the future.”
Gary’s first day in District Five will be on July 1, 2019.
“I am honored and excited to join the Spartanburg District Five family and look forward to continuing and expanding upon the legacy of excellence that has been established,” he said. “I had the opportunity to meet many dedicated students and faculty during the selection process and eagerly anticipate working with them as we live out the motto, ‘Every Child, Every Day.'”
