A man was hit and killed by a vehicle Sunday morning in Greenville County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Demetrious Downs, 41, was driving a 2005 Mercedes south on Bruce Road at about 2:05 a.m.

Downs moved into the left lane to pass a 2005 Chevy SUV, troopers said.

When he changed lanes, he hit a pedestrian then sideswiped the SUV before running off of the roadway and crashing into a ditch, according to the troopers.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said the pedestrian, Tyuka Poeyaramon Poole, 32, of Greenville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

Downs has been charged with reckless driving.
