Driver killed in crash with log truck in Greenwood Co. ID’d


GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) – South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said they are currently investigating a deadly crash involving a vehicle and a log truck that happened Wednesday afternoon in Greenwood County.

According to Trooper Sutherland, the crash occurred on US 221 at Whitehall Road just after 12 p.m.

Highway patrol said a 2015 Kenworth tractor trailer was traveling south on US 221 and a 2002 Cadillac four-door was stopped east on Whitehall Road.

The Cadillac reportedly entered the intersection and the tractor trailer and the Cadillac crashed.

The driver of the Cadillac died following the crash. Highway patrol said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was entrapped.

According to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox, the driver was identified as Bryan Orlando Hackett, 47, of Greenwood.

The coroner said Hackett’s death was accidental and his cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Highway patrol said no charges have been filed.

An investigation is still ongoing by highway patrol and Greenwood.
