Driver plunges 50+ feet beside WNC bridge

FRANKLIN, N.C. (WSPA) — A driver and passenger were rescued after a truck plunged down an embankment and crashed between two bridges in western North Carolina.

The accident happened Wednesday morning in Franklin.

Officials say a truck crashed at the Little Tennessee bridge and 64 Bypass. No other vehicles were involved.

Rescuers had to cut a lock on a gate and use an ATV to reach the victims. 

7News is told the truck landed between two bridges after plunging an estimated 50 to 60 feet. 

The driver walked away with a scratch. A passenger in the truck was airlifted to a hospital with a broken leg. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
