SPARTANBURG COUNTY – There are no classes at Duncan Elementary School Tuesday after a severe storm caused roof damage and leaks.
The school on South Danzler Road has 30 to 35 leaks in the roof after the powerful storm that came through Monday afternoon according to Melissa Robinette, Spartanburg School District 5 spokesperson.
The damage was mainly to the kindergarten room and five computers were damaged. We’re told there is standing water in part of the building and some carpet and rugs were damaged.
Robinette says there was damage, but not as severe at Byrnes Freshman Academy.
All staff and faculty were told to report to work Tuesday, but with a two-hour delay. We were told originally clean up work is happening in order to have the school ready for classes to resume on Wednesday.
The school will open for students Wednesday and is safe but there is still damage to carpets and “educational materials”. They say there is still a lot of cleanup to do but the building is safe.
