Duncan woman accused of shooting, killing husband

SPARTANBURG Co., SC (WSPA) – Bond has been denied for a woman charged with murder in the deadly shooting of her husband.

Donne Marie Leo, 58, was in court for a bond hearing early Tuesday morning.

Deputies say the shooting happened at the couple’s home on Robin Lake Road in Duncan.

The coroner said Leo’s husband, 64-year-old David Joseph Leo, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 11 a.m. Monday.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the home after a caller told a 911 dispatcher she accidentally shot her husband twice.

When deputies arrived, they found David Leo dead inside the home.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that David Leo had been shot several times.

Donna Leo told deputies that she had suffered mental and physical abuse from her husband for several years and she decided Monday morning that she wasn’t going to take it anymore. However, deputies say there were no signs of an assault and no prior history of domestic incidents at the home.

Donna Leo was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Spartanburg County Coroner Randy Bogan said a preliminary cause of Leo’s death is gunshot wounds.

The coroner’s office said they are awaiting the autopsy report and toxicology results.

Donna Leo remains in the Spartanburg County jail.
